Uzipen is a social enterprise that was created in 2011 through the Secretariado Gitano Foundation (the Gypsy Secretariat Foundation). Its aim is to "create equal conditions for those who are in a situation of disadvantage," according to one of its promoters, Rocio García. To this end, they work on integrating the Gypsy population into the labor force.
"We have planned a strategy for maintaining buildings, which is something we want to achieve, together with the issue of cleaning. We don't plan for exponential growth, rather for sustainable growth," says Álvaro Gutiérrez, another of the promoters of this social enterprise. Uzipen analyzes people's employability on a case-by-case basis, assesses skills and boosts them through a training process.
Uzipen works to break stereotypes. "Contact with the company allows the people to do this work and the company to break with stereotypes," explains Rocio, who also points to the motivation shown by these people to work.
