In Spanish supermarkets alone, a million kilos of food in perfect condition is thrown away every night, at a cost to the companies of around €600,000, not including the environmental cost. Around the world, the economic value of wasted food, solely in the distribution chain, is 143 billion dollars.

"All the data and studies tell us that consumers are now digitalized and value anything that can save money and time using digital channels, and that is quick, easy and secure," explain the representatives of Smartbider in BBVA Momentum, Fran Carballo and Enrique Lucini. "People want to contribute to others and the environment, if this does not mean leaving their comfort zone too much."

Smartbider is designed by putting everyone at the center, from businesses to consumers, so that none have to leave the comfort zone to get benefits and help change the world.

Its mission is to reduce food waste by providing access via cell phone to offers and purchases in real time. In this way it guides interests and habits and recommends food that can interest users. In addition, it shows the value of purchases in terms of the carbon footprint and money allocated to social projects.
