Pathlight Home has created a social enterprise that offers a 12-week cooking training program and service dining classes for people with problems getting a job. “We work in Sobik’s Cafe, which provides job training opportunities.” says its co-founder Helaine Blum.
It's financially sustainable models allows them to administer affordable housing based on the rent they receive. Its growth plans have them extending their model to other surrounding counties to address the significant shortage of affordable housing. “We are the pioneers of the ‘housing first’ model in Central Florida.” explains Helaine. “We bought old hotel properties and structured innovative financing models to create 500 housing units for disadvantaged people at risk of social exclusion and gave them opportunities to work in Sobik’s Cafe and Pathlight Kitchen.”
