Las Chambaculeras is a community-based ecotourism experience in Cartagena de Indias, specifically in Caño Juan Angola. This area is located in the middle of the mangroves, which allows interaction with a community that educates tourists about their daily work as a village of fishing and handicrafts on the shores of the Caribbean, and about their gastronomy and culture.
"This social enterprise seeks to expand innovative tourism products created by the community in working-class neighborhoods," says the promoter Juan Carlos Zárate. "So we show tourists visiting Cartagena the natural and cultural wealth of these neighborhoods."
In addition to sustainable tourism, Las Chambaculeras aims to recover, for the first time in the history of Cartagena de Indias, the environment of the area through workshops to teach children living in these communities how to manage solid waste and conserve fauna and flora.
