Is wood a business? For Héctor Andrés Anguiano, the coordinator of Industry and Certification for the Indigenous Community of Nuevo San Juan Parangaricutiro, the answer is yes, provided that "there is a chain of production in place that is as complete as ours."
The Community controls the whole process, from collecting the seeds from the tree to when it is sold as furniture.
This project includes 10 companies in which 1,254 members of the Community participate, all with the same rights and obligations and the same goal: the sustainable use of raw materials. It transforms raw materials into planks that can then be used to produce floorboards, frames, furniture, coffins, etc.
