Biosolutions is a company that produces plastics based on natural fibers from plants such as agave to replace the use of petroleum-based plastic. "Broadly speaking, most bioplastics produced around the world are made from fibers or compounds from food, but we don't want to use food, so we work with agroindustrial waste", explained its director and founder, Ana Laborde.

The company was created when Ana was studying a master's degree in Business Innovation and Technology. In one of the projects she was working on, she saw the opportunity presented in the field of bioplastic products. Normally potatoes, corn and other foods are typically used in the production of these materials, but Ana disagreed: "Food should be used to feed people, so this is why we decided to use another raw material: agave."

The result is products that use less oil in their manufacture and maintain the same quality standards: "plastic bags and film, injected items like pens, glasses and plates, PET containers and other containers for shampoo or cleaning products that are thicker and not as clear", explained Ana.
