Javier Jiménez and Diego Carrero, the creators of Aptent, had a very clear goal when they decided to set up their own company: they wanted to use technology to make the theater accessible to all kinds of audiences, including people with sensory disabilities. This meant developing solutions to allow these individuals to understand what's happening on stage, either by subtitling the libretto or through an audio description of the play.
This pioneering initiative is already in use in several theaters in the Madrid Region. The work of Javier, Diego and the whole team is allowing many people –for whom going to this type of show use to be fraught with difficulty– to enjoy the theater in exactly the same conditions as the rest of the audience.
Accessible theater performances are proving so successful that the average number of new users is increasing, as people with disabilities take their friends and family members along to the shows. Aptent is introducing a new audience to the theater, allowing them to enjoy a leisure option that was previously beyond their reach.
